Bouillabaisse in Cleveland?

I am trying to get to New Hampshire to celebrate my Mom’s birthday tomorrow. Due to an unfortunate mechanical failure on our Continental plane we found ourselves in Cleveland, Ohio for the evening, compliments of the airline. They promised to pay for our room and dinner and sent us to the Marriott at the Airport. We were not too excited about that, as we had planned on being in NH, feasting on lobster this evening.

After nearly a 12 hour day just to get here, we were hungry and thirsty…very thirsty! We checked in and headed down to the lounge for a cocktail and a look at the menu. Our bartender’s name was Magic…a classy biker looking dude who turned out to be quite an ambassador for the property. He told us that they had a new menu concept that was bringing in the locals by droves. Lots of local and Ohio products on the menu and a garden out behind the parking lot!!! I asked to see the menu and was pleasantly surprised by the creativity and especially amazed at the prices. Nothing over $19, except the Chef’s Choice Tasting Menu, which was only $30 for four courses and $40 for six courses.

The restaurant is called America’s Modern Palate,  or AMP 150, a Chef Dean James Max concept

Bouillabaisse

I had a very delicious Pan Seared Hake Bouillabaisse with Shrimp, Mussels and Clams…$16, Pam had a Wedge Burger (a hearty burger on a piece of Texas toast topped with a Wedge of Iceberg Lettuce topped with a delightful Creamy Blue Cheese Dressing and Crispy Onion Straws…$9). Other menu options included: Beet Salad with Goat Cheese fondue, Candied Pistachios and Local Greens…$7, Squash Blossoms, Housemade ricotta, Green Tomato Jam…$7, Risotto with Local Corn, Shrimp and Local Ramps…$7, Smoked Bone-In Pork Chop with Garden Succotash, Tasso Ham and Black Pepper Gastrique…$16 and one of the veggie sides was Roasted Cauliflower with Goat Cheese, Pine Nuts and a Beet Vinaigrette…$5.

The Wedge Burger

If you find yourself in Cleveland, Ohio by choice or by accident…go to the Marriott out by the airport for a surprisingly delicious and affordable dining experience. Stop by the bar and meet Magic, he makes a mean Bloody Mary!
