In 2007, Gary Oppenheimer found himself with a garden of plenty. More produce then his family could consume and none of his family or friends to "Farm" it off to. So...instead of tossing it away, he took it to a local food pantry at a battered-woman's shelter. The shelter was overwhelmed and thankful, but also left a strong message in his head...they were thankful to have "real fresh food" instead of canned. Gary couldn't let that thought out of his mind and started the website AmpleHarvest.org.
Today nearly 2000 food pantries are registered on the site and are receiving fresh produce from home gardeners and farms all over the country....CLICK the link above to read the whole story...as he is a CNN Hero and a hero of ours!
